Dr. D. D. Sagdeo
Dr. D.D. Sagdeo, a young doctor from Nagpur, joined SVMM in 1980. His tireless & selfless service has shown remarkable transformation. Under his leadership, the small clinic has grown into a 36 bed well equipped hospital (With free food and treatment for tribal) constituting laboratory, multi-speciality clinics, ECG, Ambulance, Mobile Dispensaries, subcentres and a school in tribal concentrations. He was the first one to discover Sickle Cell Anaemia (SCA) among the tribes of Wayanad. In 2022 Govt of India has announced to start a programme for eradication of SCA by 2047. Recognition for the efforts came through in 2021 when the President of India conferred the prestigious Padmashree award upon Dr. D. D. Sagdeo.
Golden Jubilee Celebration
Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission has completed 50 glorious years of service to tribal community in Wayanad district of Kerala. Golden Jubilee was celebrated on 08th January 2023 and Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Govt of India – Smt. Renuka Singh Saruta was the Chief Guest for the function.
As part of Swami Vivekakanda Jayanthi and SVMM Golden Jubilee celebrations, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Govt of India – Smt. Renuka Singh Saruta inaugurated the Sickle cell disease control project on 8th of January 2023. This sickle cell disease control project is being implemented with the guidance and support from Sewa International for the purpose of eradicating sickle cell disease from Wayanad district and Nilgiri district of Tamilnadu.
